Henkels & McCoy Group Companies Exceed Goal Set for Red Cross Blood Drive

July 20, 2020

On Tuesday, July 14, 2020, Henkels & McCoy Group Companies sponsored an American Red Cross blood drive in collaboration with Epiphany of Our Lord Church, Whitpain Township, and the DoubleTree Suites in Plymouth Meeting. The response was overwhelming, as dozens of individuals demonstrated their concern for those in need by making vital blood donations to ensure a stable supply during the ongoing pandemic. While the original goal was to collect 46 units of blood, 69 units were collected, which can help up to 207 patients in need during this crucial time.

HMG typically partners with the Red Cross to sponsor several blood drives each year. In the past, donations took place in a bloodmobile parked on HMG’s Blue Bell campus. However, COVID-19 restrictions have limited the use of bloodmobiles, subsequently limiting the volume of blood donations. Determined to help meet the nation’s need for blood, HMG’s Blood Drive Leaders Kate Miller and Pete Freind reached out to DoubleTree Suites in Plymouth Meeting for assistance. “We’re so grateful for the support and generosity of the DoubleTree,” said Pete Freind. “By donating space at their facility, our employees and our community were able to participate in this important event.”

As an additional health service to donors at the blood drive, the American Red Cross tested all blood, platelet, and plasma donations for COVID-19 antibodies. This testing may provide critical insight into whether donors may have possibly been exposed to this coronavirus.

"It’s heartwarming to witness the amazing response we received from people who are willing to help meet critical needs in the communities we serve. Partnering with the Red Cross is always an honor, and even more so during this time when it’s needed most," said Kate Miller.

To find a Red Cross blood drive, go to RedCrossBlood.org, download the Red Cross blood donor app, or call 1-800-RED CROSS. Those who feel healthy and well can schedule an appointment to help save lives and learn about their potential exposure to COVID-19.
