THE NEW JERSEY ALLIANCE FOR ACTION HONORS HMI TECHNICAL SOLUTIONS

March 28, 2022

The New Jersey Alliance for Action, a non-profit association representing thousands of business, labor, government, utility, education, and professional leaders, recently honored HMI Technical Solutions (HMITS) at their “New Jersey’s Leading Capital Construction Projects” awards program for the firm’s contributions to the Sharp II – Brigantine Bridge Redundancy Project.

The New Jersey coastline faces a significant number of weather challenges annually. Per its name, the SHARP (Storm Hardening and Reliability Program) program focuses on strengthening the natural gas infrastructure in coastal areas and barrier islands to increase reliability and system resiliency. One portion of the SHARP II Program was focused on installing a redundant gas pipeline feeding the island of Brigantine in the event that the existing 10" pipeline supplying the island were to be compromised. The improvements made by South Jersey Gas, HMITS, and their project partners involved embedding the line in the sea floor to ensure its longevity. The New Jersey Alliance for Action honored the SHARP II Brigantine Bridge project and all the companies on the project team for their contributions to this important energy resiliency initiative.

HMITS Director, Oil & Gas, Frank Zaborowski explained, “The project involved route analysis, engineering design, permitting, and as-built construction support for a 12” steel gas pipeline, delivering a safe and reliable feed to Brigantine Island. The gas pipeline was designed to be installed 100’ below the sea floor, spanning over 3,000’ across and underneath the Absecon Inlet.”

“Our team worked together as one with South Jersey Gas, installation contractors, local and state authorities, and other project stakeholders to ensure a safe and successful project from start through completion,” said Mr. Zaborowski. “This was a special effort from our entire team, as we faced both weather challenges and the pandemic. Each person had a critical role in the overall delivery, with Ashley Lesher and James Deyerle leading the specialized engineering design; Chrysa Meyers and Pete Wilders leading the state, county, and environmental permitting efforts; and Ryan Arrieta and Chris Mossor leading the field support efforts.”

The New Jersey Alliance for Action’s “New Jersey’s Leading Capital Construction Projects” awards program highlights innovative construction initiatives that positively impact the state’s economy and honors partnerships between businesses and organizations that ensure project success.
